Sydney family adventure in Thredbo? Challenge accepted

Challenge the family just like Eugene Tan (Aquabumps) and head to Thredbo this summer for a holiday to remember.

Eugene (also known as Uge) is the sole photographer and owner of the Bondi Beach gallery and online photography business, Aquabumps. Known for his mostly coastal shots, Uge was tasked with taking the family to the Snowy Mountains and capturing five photos of a landscape slightly out of his comfort zone.

Here’s how it went…

The experience began with a sunrise shoot at the top of the mountain offering incredible views of the valley, Thredbo Village and the surrounding mountains in the beauty of the alpenglow. Follow Aquabumps to see the final five photos.

The family of four then hit the ground running, signing themselves up for a weekend full of all the amazing activities on offer. Thredbo is Australia’s only lift-accessed gravity mountain bike park and Uge and his young family were keen to hit the trails. As they were beginners to mountain biking, they joined one of Thredbo MTB Learn to Ride Clinics to nail the basics before heading up the mountain to rip up the mountains newest trail Sidewinder.

 Thredbo is also home to Australia’s highest mountains which the family were not afraid to concur. Summer is the perfect time to see and summit Mt Kosciuszko, a 4-6 hours round trip hike suitable for all. Down in the valley, Uge and his wife spent the afternoon trying their hand at Fly Fishing, while the kids enjoyed the sun and explored around the Thredbo River.

Uge doesn’t often stray far from the coast, especially in summer, but he said this four-day experience in the Snowy Mountains may have changed his mind for future family holidays.

“Quiet space, there’s no one around, I am used to 50,000 people around on Bondi Beach and look at this, it’s stunning,” Uge said.

The trip came just ahead of Thredbo’s summer season which offers a range of activities and a huge lineup of events for the whole family, including the Kids Summer Adventure Festival running from 24 December 2021 to 15 January 2021.
