Frequently Asked Questions

Riders will be awarded points based off their position in each event, except Deity Whip Wars. These points will be tallied to determine the overall King & Queen of Cannonball for each category.

You are not required to enter all events to be eligible for King or Queen of Cannonball. Check out the Rules and Regulations for a full rundown of how the points system works.

No. The Cannonball Oakley Australian Open DH & Round 2 of the AusCycling National Series are the same race. If you win the the DH you will win the Cannonball Australian Open DH and the DH National Series Round 2.

Yes. There will be one entry fee which will enter you in both events. If you enter the Australian Open Downhill you will automatically be entered into the National DH Series Round 2.

All categories for the Oakley Australian Open Downhill will have a seeding run to determine the start order for finals.

During Official Practice, all riders must have a valid race plate to enter the track. It is closed to the public and riders who are not entered in that particular race. During Unofficial Practice, the track is open to all riders.

All competitors must have an AusCycling Race Membership or purchase an Event Licence which is valid on the day of the event.

Cannonball MTB Festival is also conducted under the guidelines provided in the AusCycling Member Protection Policy.

Age categories are calculated based off the riders age as of 31 December 2024.

Osprey All-Mountain Assault: 2 days lift access. Includes Monday 12th & Tuesday 13th
Fox Flow Motion Cup: 2 days lift access. Group A: Includes Tuesday 13th & Wednesday 14th Group B: Wednesday 14th & Thursday 15th
Oakley Australian Open Downhill: 2 days lift access. Includes Friday 16th & Saturday 17th.
Boost Mobile All Event Entry: 6 days lift access. Monday 12th – Saturday 17th

Additional practice days can be purchased online when you register or at Valley Terminal Guest Services. No lift access is required for the Rockshox Pump Track Challenge, Deity Whip Wars or Maxxis Dual Slalom.

All entries will close 6pm on Monday 5th February unless sold out prior. There will be no late entries received after this point.

When practice is listed as “Official”, it is only open to racers with a valid race plate. All riders must have their race plate to enter the race track. Outside of those times, the trail is open to the public.

The Fox Flow Motion Cup will be run across 2 days with Group A competing on Wednesday 14th & Group B competing on Thursday 15th.

All competitors will have to complete a qualifying run on the mornings of each event. Based off this, heats will be made for the finals to be held at night. Not all competitors will qualify for finals.

No. Competitors can go and complete 1 qualifying run whenever they want on the morning of each event. There will be no start order.

Each voucher has a unique voucher ID that can be used once by the season pass holder (and can not be passed onto friends).

Yes. The Pro Men, Pro Women, U19 Men & U19 Women will have their own practice session on the Oakley Australian Open Downhill course. The session will be on Friday & Saturday morning between 9:45am – 11:00am. No other categories will be permitted to ride the course during this practice session.

The novice category is geared towards first timer mountain bike racers who are keen to have a crack but have never entered a competition before. If you have raced a little before and are a confident rider then the amateur category will be better suited to you.

Yes. All events will require the use of a full-face helmet.

A full face helmet and knee pads are compulsory for all events. The Oakley Australian Open Downhill requires for all competitors to have both knees & elbows covered with either jersey & long pants or elbow & knee pads as per AusCycling regulations. U11, U13, U15 & U17 competitors must wear full finger gloves, full length jersey, knee pads & elbow pads. Please study the Rules and Regulations to determine what safety equipment is required for each race.

The Deity Whip Wars is an invite only event.

We have a fully operational workshop at Valley Terminal. Qualified mechanics are on hand specializing in pre-race suspension setup and everything you need to ensure your bike is race ready. SRAM & RockShox will also be providing tech-support across the weekend for all your suspension, brake & drivetrain needs.

There will be some trail closures in place across the Cannonball week. Stay up to date with all trail closures here.

Yes. An E-Mountain Bike is a bike operated with two energy sources, human pedal power and an electric engine, which only provides assistance when the rider is pedalling.

E-Mountain bikes entered in all Cannonball events must adhere to the following bike standards:

  • Engine of maximum 250 watts
  • Engine assistance up to 25km/h
  • Pedalling assistance only, although a start-up assistance not exceeding 6km/h without pedalling is allowed
  • Wheel sizes shall be a minimum of 26 inches
  • Gearing roll out distance: maximum is 9.0 m
  • Bikes must be commercially available and of mid (crank) motor format only

Please study the Rules and Regulations to determine if your bike is eligible for racing.

Yes. However, they must remove their chains as per all other categories.

Cannonball MTB Festival will fall under the Thredbo Cancellation Policy. If a competitor injuries themselves prior to competing they are entitle to a refund minus a $20 cancellation fee once a valid doctors certificate has been presented.
