3 Days of Wellness in Thredbo
Whether you’re kicking back watching the sunset in the mountains, meandering your way to the roof of Australia, taking a dip in an alpine rockpool, or satisfying your palette with delicious cuisine, there are so many ways to unwind and get back to nature in Thredbo. Our three-day wellness itinerary will ensure you get the most out of your Snowy Mountains holiday, whilst also leaving you feeling refreshed and relaxed.
Morning | Hike to Mt Kosciuszko
All good wellness retreats start with a bit of a challenge, so today is the day to hike to the top of Australia! Wake up feeling refreshed in the Thredbo Alpine Hotel and head to The Bakery for a breakfast wrap and a local’s favourite for lunch – Salad Roll and a cheeky pastry.
The 13km round trip hike takes roughly 4 to 6 hours and climbs to the highest peak in Australia, Mt Kosciuszko. By joining one of our guided hikes, you will get the most out of your journey. Our guides are a wealth of knowledge and they can share all of this with you as they lead you to the peak of the mountain, standing 2228m above sea level.
Afternoon | Treat yourself at Australia’s highest restaurant
On your way back, don’t miss the opportunity to stop at Australia’s highest restaurant, Eagles Nest. Perched 1937 metres above Thredbo Village offering incredible views of the Snowy Mountains, it’s the perfect place for an afternoon snack, coffee or butterscotch schnapps.
Evening | Indulge in
Head to dinner at The Local Pub on your first night and indulge in a healthy fresh Caesar salad or their chicken satay burger — it’s a favourite among the locals. The Local Pub also has a huge deck where you can watch the sunset in the mountains
Local’s Tip: Have some spare time in the afternoon? Thredbo’s Leisure Centre has an Olympic-sized pool for laps, squash court, sports hall and a gymnasium.
Morning | Chasing waterfalls and dipping in rockpools
Start day two with a delicious breakfast at Cascades Restaurant. Spend the morning seeking out the many waterfalls and quaint rockpools across Thredbo mountain. Take a walk up Merritts Nature Track and see if you can find the stunning Rock Pool at the beginning, or brave the elements and try a cold-water immersion in one of the alpine rivers – there’s no better way to feel invigorated.
Afternoon | Did someone say schnapps?
Once you’ve warmed up from a morning in nature, book yourself into a late lunch at the Wildbrumby Distillery who serve a wide range of locally made schnapps, gin and vodka and a variety of tasty meals and platters.
Evening | A lazy picnic by the Thredbo River
With daylight lingering late into the evening, take a picnic out next to the Thredbo River and laze along its banks, soaking up the late afternoon sun and maybe fit in a yoga session.
Local’s Tip: Halfway up the Merritts Nature Walk there is a beautiful picnic spot for a break and a great place for a photo opp. Download map
Morning | Hike to Dead Horse Gap
You can’t leave Thredbo without completing the famous Dead Horse Gap Hike. Mostly downhill, the walk descends just over 300 vertical metres from the top of the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift to Dead Horse Gap before ending a short 10-min drive from Thredbo. Enjoy incredible views along the way including an abundance of wildflowers, twisted snow gums and beautiful waterfalls. Walk it yourself or take a guide; either way, the circuit is well worth the huff ‘n puff.
Afternoon | Take a ride on Australia’s only alpine gondola
Satisfy your hunger after the long walk by catching the Merritts Gondola up to Merritts Mountain House. Merritts Gondola is Australia’s only high speed, eight-person Gondola, taking only six minutes to get from the village to the base of the Cruiser Area. Once you’re up the top, enjoy tasty dining, cold beverages and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Evening | Meander from the Lounge Bar into the Local Pub
The deck of The Local Pub is the perfect place to spend your first night. Watch the sunset in the mountains as you indulge in either a healthy fresh Caesar salad or chicken satay burger — a favourite among the locals.
Local’s Tip: Close out your holiday with a beautiful alpine sunset. The Dead Horse Gap crest is a ten-minute drive from Thredbo. Head here after dinner and allow the sun to salute you as you breathe in the fresh mountain air.
