Boom! The Fourth Annual Banked Slalom went off with an absolute bang…and I mean bang! If you were in Thredbo this weekend and took part in the snowboarding celebrations you would know what we’re talking about! Come find out what went down…
Snowboarders unite! Thredbo and Volcom have taken a leaf out of Woodstock’s book and decided to put on a weekend full of peace, love and snowboarding. Time to save the date and plan your sick day because Boardstock 2017 is going down across the weekend of the 15th and 16th of September and it’s set to go off!
The Thredbo Snow Series is a unique series consisting of 5 events covering 5 freestyle disciplines. Competitors can enter individual or multiple events to take out event wins as well as accumulating overall series points. Ultimately to take out overall series honours a well rounded snowsports skill set is required.
The school holidays…a classic conundrum: a break from the routine of early starts, pick-up lines and sports games, but then…what to do to keep the kids entertained? How does an epic snow holiday sound? To keep the kids more than entertained, Thredbo has an awesome Kids Snow Festival lineup for the September school holidays (September 20 – 30) that will have them smiling all day, and most importantly, sleeping soundly all night.
Thredbo Snow Series Big Air means big thrills and with the overall series crowns also up for grabs, the excitement levels were through the roof. The always popular Q5 jump measures in at 45 foot to the knuckle… not massive but with a long landing competitors were able to send it! To cover the diversity of abilities in the event a smaller take off was pushed up measuring in at 20 foot. After warming up in practice each athlete got two jumps with the best jump counted as the scorer.
The penultimate event of the 2017 Thredbo Snow Series is the Slopestyle. With it’s inclusion in the Olympics the already popular event is going from strength to strength. To provide the best course possible the jump and the rail elements were held separate with 2 runs on each. The best jump run and the best rail run for each competitor was combined to give the overall Slopestyle score. With less pressure to link 4 tricks consecutively, competitors could relax a little focusing on 2 tricks at a time.
The Toyota One Hit Wonder Mountain Festival is taking over Thredbo again from Tuesday the 5th of September through to Saturday the 9th and is set to be one huge week!
Returning in 2017 after a 4 year hiatus the Thredbo Snow Series welcomes back the Freeride on the Bluff… and what a return! The steep face of the Bluff was stacked after the Blizzard of Oz and the Blizzard of Oz 2.0. So much snow that many of the favourite features were actually filled in. With less options to choose from big air and tricks were the order of the day, as opposed to technical lines through the rocks… there’s not many rocks left up there! With one judged run to decide the winners, competitors had to negotiate the variable visibility and put it all on the line.
Thredbo will be playing host to The Preatures on August 26 at the Corona Sunsets Poolside Apres Party from 2pm, with the lucky attendees getting first taste of their new album Girlhood, just released this month.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
