Itinerary

Morning | Get ready to shred some dirt

Wake up in the Thredbo Alpine Hotel and start your day with a delicious breakfast at Cascades Restaurant. Today is all about hitting Thredbo’s Mountain Bike Park — Australia’s only lift-accessed gravity mountain bike trails. Get ready to hit the hill by heading to the Thredbo Retail and Rental Store who have everything you need, from bikes to protective gear.

Jump on the first Kosciuszko chair at 9.30am and spend the morning exploring the over 40km of downhill and gravity trails on offer. Thredbo MTB Park has something for everyone, from advanced routes such as Cannonball Downhill to the beginner trails in the Cruiser area. If you’re looking to gain confidence, Thredbo MTB School offers 2-hour clinics daily aimed at skill progression for all ages and abilities.

Afternoon | Now that you’re a pro…

After a quick pitstop at The Bakery for lunch and a coffee, spend the afternoon ripping up the berms on the gravity mountain bike trails, or head down to the village and have a go at the Pump Track.

Evening | Sunset on the deck of the Local Pub

The best way to end a big day of riding is watching the sun go down with a drink and feed on the deck of The Local Pub. It is also a great way to fuel yourself for another two days of action!

Local’s Tip: You can’t go past the chicken parmigiana at The Pub as the perfect reward.

Morning | Hike to the top of Australia

Start day two by heading to The Bakery and picking up a local’s favourite, a Salad Roll for lunch and a cheeky pastry. Today is the day to tick off a bucket list item by summiting Australia’s highest mountain, Mt Kosciuszko. The 13km hike takes you to an altitude of 2228m and can take roughly 4-6 hours to complete. Get the most out of your experience by joining a guided hike and listen to our local guides as they share with you their wealth of knowledge about the region.

Afternoon | A snack at Australia’s highest restaurant

Perched 1937 metres above Thredbo Village sits Eagles Nest, Australia’s highest restaurant! Make sure you stop in on the way back down from your hike to enjoy incredible views of the Snowy Mountains, a snack and even a cheeky schnapps.

Evening | Fondue anyone?

After a big day out in the alpine, your hunger will be through the roof! Luckily for dinner, there are plenty of places to choose from. T-Bar Restaurant serves gourmet woodfired pizzas and delicious plates, while Candlelight Restaurant features Australian and international cuisine, with a favourite being the house speciality cheese fondue.

Local’s Tip: Have some spare time in the afternoon? See if you can find the stunning Rock Pool at the start of the Merritts Nature Track.

Morning | Mountain bike from Thredbo to Jindabyne

If one bucket list tick is just not enough, challenge yourself on day three to make the over 50km mountain bike journey from Eagles Nest to Jindabyne Brewery.

This is an all-day adventure so make sure you load onto the first chair at 9.30am in Thredbo and take it up to Eagles Nest. Make your way down Upper All-Mountain into Lower-All Mountain, and then onto Sidewinder onto the Friday Flat Loop. From there, jump onto the Thredbo Valley Track (TVT) and ride 35km along the banks of the famous Thredbo River, crossing over five suspension bridges and ending at Gaden Trout Hatchery in Jindabyne.

You are almost there – simply take the Hatchery Bay Trail to East Jindabyne and follow the path all the way to Jindabyne Brewing. The ride is certainly a challenge, but it will be worth it once you have a nice old beer in your hand at the end. Snowy Mountains Shuttles can pick you up once you’re done and take you back to Thredbo.

For a shorter version of this challenge, start at Friday Flat in Thredbo a ride the top half of the Thredbo Valley Track down to Lake Crackenback Resort. You might even want to brave the cold and take a revitalising dip in the Thredbo River at the end.

Afternoon | A perfect afternoon stroll

Finish off the day with a walk around the Riverside/Golf Course loop where you will see the power of the Thredbo River, blooming wildflowers and maybe even some native animals.

Evening | An indulgent dinner on your final night

On your final night in Thredbo, take advantage of Après Happy Hour (4pm – 6pm, Thursdays to Saturdays) on the deck of Cascades Restaurant with the stunning views of the mountain. For dinner, sample the region’s local produce highlighted in Cascade’s fresh and seasonal summer menu.

Local’s Tip: The Alpine Bobsled is great alternative afternoon activity. Perfect for all ages, the 700m ride of twists and turns will provide you with all the adrenaline you’ll need for the afternoon.
